Description
The AMS Feeder Unit is the component that physically moves filament in and out of each AMS slot. Every AMS holds four of them, one per bay, and each unit carries its own motor, gear set, and filament detection sensor. When a spool is inserted, the sensor registers the filament and the feeder automatically draws it in without any user input. During a colour change, the feeder pushes the selected filament forward toward the printer, then reverses to retract the unloaded material and drives the AMS driving sleeve so the spool rotates and winds the slack back onto itself.
Because every filament swap runs through these four units, they accumulate more mechanical cycles than almost any other part of the AMS. A failing feeder typically affects only one slot while the other three keep working normally, which makes it easy to identify: filament that will not auto-load into a specific bay, a slot that fails to retract or leaves loose filament in the tube, grinding or clicking from one position, or repeated load errors reported for the same slot number. Replacing that single unit restores the affected bay without touching the rest of the AMS.
